We are pleased to announce that
THE MARJORIE ROSE
CHRISTMAS SHOW 2008
will take place in the Raleigh Convention Center Thurs.
Nov. 20 thru Sun. Nov. 23. as part of the "2008 Carolina Christmas Show.
Attendance
at our Christmas Show 2007 at Oakley Hall Plantation in Warren County was tremendous.
We now hope to accommodate many of Marjorie's fans statewide by bringing her center-state
to unveil a large number of new originals. Come see us and meet the artist the
weekend before Thanksgiving. More details later. The Other Powell, Janet Kaye,
will also be there to unveil her recent works. This is going to be great fun!!!
We
continue to get complaints that there are too many "SOLD" signs on this
website. That of course is music to an artist's ear, but it is frustrating to
the fans at large.
Now, a little information about the artist:
Born in 1950, Marjorie Rose Powell grew up on a tobacco farm in
Wayne County, North Carolina. She was "raised in a friendly, generous environment
where everyone was welcome in the Rose home." She says: "I was in my own
world of flowers, rock gardens, old houses, front porches, and all kinds of people.
We never talked discrimination. Everyone was beautiful." Marjorie attributes
to her father her belief that life must be generous, loving, and positive. Throw
in a little whimsy, mischief, and lots of color and you have Marjorie Rose Powell.
Her philosophy is "Let’s get the work done fast so we can play!"

The
world of Marjorie Rose Powell’s art is the same world of her childhood, a positive,
fun, whimsical, generous, non-discriminating place. It is a world of work, but also
a world of pleasure, pleasure in the beautiful colors of the environment, in the
splendid diversity of people, and in the love and caring that all people show for
each other and for the world they live in. Through her art, Marjorie portrays the
world the way it should be, a world that all of us hoped to find someday.

Marjorie began her career
in folk art at the age of sixteen. She earned her spending money selling paintings
on canvas at that time. Her works have been shown widely in the United States, including
galleries in Illinois, Texas, Florida, and of course North Carolina. Her works also
appear in private collections in the United States and in Europe. Marjorie has been
very busy over the last several years. Her one-woman shows in Chicago have been sell-outs.
They especially love her Halloween subjects! In the fall of 2004, Marjorie was invited
to enter two paintings in the prestigious Slotin Fall Folk Art Auction (see www.slotinfolkart.com).
Both works sold for $900 each! In 2004 Marjorie was presented to North Carolinians
at the North Carolina State Fair (Be sure to see her wonderful piece entitled "State
Fair," done for this special occasion). In November, 2007, Marjorie was honored
for her work in folk art with a feature article in the prestigious Our State Magazine.
Marjorie's prints and a selected number of her originals are on display
at Oakley Hall Antiques & Art, Inc. located at 102. S. Main St. in Warrenton,
NC (27589). Warrenton is one hour north of Raleigh off Interstate 85. Call our gallery
at 252-257-2411 for information, store schedule or directions.
Today Marjorie
lives on a beautiful farm in the charming town of Mount Olive, North Carolina. She
describes herself and her life as "passionate, colorful, wild, and happy!"
Welcome to the World of Marjorie Rose Powell.
